Effects of Exercise and Ice Pack Therapy on Discomfort after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Abstract
Purpose: The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise therapy and ice pack therapy in reducing discomfort after the PCI procedure.

Method: A total of 33 patients admitted to a university hospital were selected for the study. Patients were divided equally into 3 groups (excercise group(11), ice pack group(11), control group(11)) The subjects in excercise group underwent exercise therapy and the patients in the ice pack group underwent ice pack therapy and the other 11 patients in the control group(n=11) received no treatment.

Results: Patients in the excercise group and ice pack group reported significant relief of discomfort compared with those in the control group who didn¡¯t undergo any treatment.

Conclusion: The study proved that ice pack therapy was more effective in relieving discomfort, back pain, urinary discomfort than providing no care, and exercise therapy was more effective in relieving urinary discomfort than providing ice pack therapy.
